YORKSHIRE ROOM

The luxuriously appointed Yorkshire Room at Henry Buck’s has now opened.

“It is 118 years since Henry Buck opened a small shirt shop in Swanston Street and 75 years since he died in London. In affectionate and respectful memory of Henry and his home county we wanted to call our private shopping salon (probably the same size as Henry's original shop), the Yorkshire Room. My brother Jon and my nephew Tim have collaborated in designing, building and furnishing this tribute to our founder, great grandfather and great-great grandfather Henry”.
- Tim Cecil

The Yorkshire Room is a new VIP retreat at Henry Buck's flagship store at 320 Collins Street, Melbourne. The name, Yorkshire Room, has been chosen, as the store's founders (Henry & Laura Buck) were proud and headstrong Yorkshire-folk and part of the heritage of Henry Bucks is the North Country integrity and straight shooting attention to service and honest product.

As Australia's oldest family owned national retailer, Henry Bucks (since 1890) also wants to celebrate and share its 118 year history. The Yorkshire Room, therefore will not only be a unique space for special VIP customers, bespoke suiting, and other gentlemen’s accessories and accoutrements - but an inner sanctum to house items of interest from the archives of Henry Bucks.

Henry Bucks has dressed every Prime Minister of Australia since 1890 (except Gough Whitlam).  Robert Menzies was a particularly good customer and close friend of the family. General McArthur and many of the allied forces’ personnel were made-to-measure shirt customers during World War II. Many visiting actors including Gregory Peck whilst making On the Beach bought from Henry Bucks. Squizzy Taylor was gunned to death in 1927 wearing a Henry Bucks silk shirt. Henry Bucks was awarded a coveted Royal Warrant in 1996 by the Duke of Kent for services to British export. Many famous artists such as David Hockney, Barry Humphries and John Olsen have been customers.

Tim Cecil, the great –grandson of Henry Buck is only the third managing director in the company’s long history of dressing Australia’s great and good.
