Denim Jeans for All Occasions


Denim has been around for well over 100 years and was made popular as a mainstream casual wear item rather than work pants in 1952 when Bing Crosby wore a Levi’s 506 jacket and their iconic 501 jeans bashing on the drums and singing with his band. Since then heroes of film and pop culture have worn them. Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Montgomery Clift, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Miles Davis and Jean Paul Belmondo. Jeans have now become so mainstream, so much an ubiquitous item of day to day clothing in our wardrobe that you could almost wear them to your club. Well, that’s exaggerating. You’d be shown the door!

 

The word Denim was traditionally colored blue with indigo dye to make blue “jeans”, though “jean” then denoted a different, lighter cotton textile; the contemporary use of jean comes from the French word for Genoa, Italy (Gênes), where the first denim trousers were made.
